Can Golf Simulators Improve Our Game Like Tiger Wood?

Golf Simulator - People around the world living in areas where golf is impossible to play due to winter conditions are keeping their golf swings grooved through the use of golf simulators. Most simulators come with a few golf courses loaded and optionally you can purchase additional courses for a moderate fee. As a golf amateur, I spent some time at many different golf simulators available today. Originally golf simulators require large, expensive equipment that was out of reach of the average home user. With lower prices, more and more golfers are set simulators decide in their homes.

We have started to see some of the major golf club manufacturers using advanced golf simulation to aid fitting and selling new equipment. Local golf professionals have also jumped on the bandwagon using advanced simulators to demonstrate swing errors aiding their customers visually, with the golfer being able to compare his swing to other top players who are the same height and have similar swing characteristics.

The question remains, Can Golf Simulators Improve Our  Game Like Tiger Wood ?  how accurate are modern simulators? We can literally hit the ball and visually check for distances to compare with the simulators results. The more expensive units are fairly impressive with surprisingly accurate readings. Measurements include spin rates, angles of attack, backspin and topspin generated.

How to Compare Indoor Golf Simulators

With the continual advances in technology and the wide range of options, choosing a golf simulator can be a daunting task. By understanding the key features of a golf simulator and comparing them to your needs, you can narrow the field rather quickly and hone in on the best choice for you. Determining if this is for Home or Commercial Use is the best place to start. If you are looking for your home, the most important considerations will be your budget and your space.

Price. Most systems designed for commercial use will fall in the mid to high end of that range. Graphics. Simulators will also come with HD graphics, wide screen formats and real time rendering of images Speed of rendering is a critical component for most commercial applications as customers don't like waiting for images to load.

Number and type of courses. The number of courses will drive the price. Having more and famous courses can help drive indoor golf revenue.

User interface and game modes. Golf swing analysis. There are several different methods for golf simulators to provide for swing analysis. Club path analysis shows the swing path, clubhead speed, position and angle of the face at impact. Ball flight analysis will look at launch angle and spin rate. Lastly, video capture allows for instruction and feedback on particular parts of the swing sequence.

Support and maintenance. Look at the length of the warranty, what it covers, whether there is remote support available, and if there is any sort of installation support.

FairwayPro Golf Mat System Review

Golf Simulator - I was looking for an artificial grass mat to practice my golfing in my backyard. I spend time searching for a mat that's halfway decent and I have to adjust my setup so that I make contact with the ball a little higher so I can hit down on the ball. When I hit a bad shot, which occurs more frequently than I'd like, the shock sometimes is extremely unpleasant. This has really let me work on my iron and hybrid play. The divot feel is remarkable. To have a catching net and this tool I can practice everyday right at home.

FairwayPro is a brand-new golf mat system with a patented mechanism that allows it to react when it's impacted by a golf club, just like real grass does. The design includes a sliding turf surface that allows golfers to hit down-and-through and compress the ball, accurately simulating ball flight and the feel of carving out a divot after striking the ball. Moreover, FairwayPro provides the most forgiving turf surface and significantly reduces the shock and potential for injury that golfers experience with fat shots on conventional mats.

FairwayPro gives true feedback on your golf shots. With conventional mats, when you hit behind the ball, the club head may still bounce off the hard surface and slide into the ball, and the ball takes off as if you've executed a good hit. So you don't get correct feedback on a fat shot from ball flight; you have to rely on the shock you experience. With FairwayPro, you'll know if you've hit a fat shot because the impact will cause the turf surface to start sliding forward and the club head will hit the ball with much less force. The result is, you get true feedback on a fat shot from the loss of distance, not from the shock to your body. FairwayPro is ideal for short game practice, including punch and flop shots. In terms of product construction, FairwayPro is made of the finest materials, including German-made stainless-steel springs that are rated for 1 million cycles. The handle and panel assembly is reversible for left-handed golfers, and the premium turf is replaceable.

FairwayPro Golf Mat System Features

  • FairwayPro is a golf mat system that reacts when it's impacted by a golf club, sliding forward and giving way, just like real grass does
  • The patented design has a sliding turf surface that allows golfers to hit down-and-through and compress the ball
  • FairwayPro provides the most forgiving surface, reducing the punishment from fat shots
  • FairwayPro provides true feedback and is ideal for short game practice, accurately simulates ball flight and the feel of carving out a divot
  • FairwayPro is manufactured with the finest materials. It's reversible for left-handed golfers and the premium turf is replaceable

Dancin Dogg OptiShot Infrared Golf Simulator Review

Golf Simulator - The great thing about Dancin Dogg OptiShot Infrared Golf Simulator is that it tells you exactly what you are doing wrong, outside/in swing with open club face (so that's why it sliced).. but aside from its practice app if you get bored just swinging a club over and over like at a driving range you can play the 3dd golf that comes with it. Setup is very easy and the software updates itself automatically. The graphics are terrific! I have a core i5 2.5Ghz laptop with 6 gig of RAM and it loads quickly and runs smoothly. The Optishot does NOT need any special tapes (like some of its competitors) and I can use my own clubs. The accuracy is dead on as I usually pull hook bad shots and within a few days of using this I have now been able to see EXACTLY why and when I make these bad shots and correct them. There are two modes for practice...practice zone and 3DD practice. The 3DD software that is included has some really good graphics and is quite realistic (especially displayed using a projector). I like the way it tells me what I am doing as far as the degrees the face is open or closed, inside/out or outside/in swing path etc. The only thing missing is angle of attack which is valuable if you want to start working on playing different trajectories. The putting takes awhile to get use to but overall this is a great product and is worth every penny. If you get to where you can hit straight or consistent shots on the Optishot you'll do the same on the course.

Dancin Dogg OptiShot Infrared Golf Simulator Product Features

  •     Club head speed, Face angle, Swing path
  •     Library of world class golf courses
  •     Easy three step setup, Software upgrades and new courses
  •     Supports left or right-handed players, and Standard or metric measurements
  •     Comes with a 180 day manufacturers limited warranty

Dancin Dogg OptiShot Infrared Golf Simulator Costumer Reviews

Best bang for the buck!,By R. Robinson
Having researched many competing golf simulators, I chose to take a chance on the Optishot. I am very satisified with my purchase as the accuracy, reliability, and ease of use of this product far exceeded my expectations. I use it in my garage and have a low-cost projector attached to my laptop that displays the images on the wall (no screen is needed since you can play without a ball!). The Optishot does NOT need any special tapes (like some of its competitors) and I can use my own clubs. The accuracy is dead on as I usually pull hook bad shots and within a few days of using this I have now been able to see EXACTLY why and when I make these bad shots and correct them. The 3DD software that is included has some really good graphics and is quite realistic (especially displayed using a projector). I also purchased the Tiger Woods 08 game and that has allowed my children to want to play with Dad now too! I think there was an earlier version last year that some folks may have had some trouble with lighting conditions, but the new version works with no problems at all even with some outside light coming in through the windows. I highly recommend this product as anything less than $400 is well worth it if it can help you to enjoy playing golf that much more!

Love it! By kito
I have had mine for a couple weeks now and have really enjoyed it. I read all the reviews from people complaining about accuracy, lighting etc. I even read about a guy over 6'6" complaining about not being able to use it with his 8'6" ceilings....well duh!. This sim doesn't magically shorten your golf clubs. It does claim that it can be used with 8'6" ceilings but that depends on how tall you are. Anyway, I have been very impressed with mine. Since the first swing it has registered accurate distances and ball flight. My normal bad shot is a hook and the Optishot does a great job of copying it. I like the way it tells me what I am doing as far as the degrees the face is open or closed, inside/out or outside/in swing path etc. I am 6'5" and still play rounds of golf on it indoors. I built up a set of 2' long clubs so I can clear the ceiling and set the sensor up on an ottoman...this is just for fun and not for practice. I do my practicing with my regular clubs outside on my deck and has worked fine. Even though I have used it mostly when it was dark out, I have had good results during the day as long as I block it from sunlight. Also, those complaining about the Optishot not being accurate as far as direction of your shot....you must line up to the sensors and not just the ball! Watching the screen can get you out of alignment without realizing it. I put a tape strip on my mat 90 degrees from the sensor bars to help me remember that. Bye Bye Tiger Woods Wii
